Howdy there, I am back once again with an update on my practicum, this marking the 3-quarter way mark. This has gone by quick, but in all honesty, this was probably the slowest week so far. Not to say I didn’t have fun, it’s just that it was a rinse and repeat of the previous week and basically doing the exact same thing every day. I am still completely remote for my practicum and it looks like it will remain that way until the end. My day starts with coming into SAIT at about 9 in the morning to use the recording room so I can do all of my voice track breaks that will air that same afternoon from 1 till 4. I expressed last week that I had some difficulty in writing my show prep and coming up with break content that the demographic would like. This week was a better, but I’d be lying if I said that I never hit any writers block. Upcoming events in Olds and surrounding area definitely helped with break content. I haven’t really heard back from anyone on my shows so far, which is a good thing I guess? I don’t know, all I know is they keep sending me the show logs everyday for the next show. After I record all the breaks, I give them some quick editing if they need it and then send it off to Troy. The rest of the day, Bernd and Melanie sends me community and sports stories to write for their newscasts. Some of it is pretty interesting to write about, but there’s where you can tell they’re reaching for local content. After about 3, I start my show prep for the following day. I don’t do it all at once however, there’s no sense in staring at a screen for hours when there’s no ideas coming. I just sporadically fill it in throughout the rest of the day whenever an idea hits me. I’ve had fun this week, but it felt like everyday kinda blended together. I wish I’d get more feedback on my stuff but I understand that they’re busy. I hope next week brings something that’s at least a little new. Since it’s the last week of me on Rock 104, I hope to have at least 1 break someone in Olds will talk about lol. I’ll be back next week with the final update of my practicum. Until then, see ya later! – Brandon Smedley
